When 5 Seconds of Summer took a brief break from making music in 2016, fans had one clamor: for the band to release 5SOS 3. The forthcoming album was labeled such while waiting for the Australian pop-rock group to divulge even just a few details regarding their third album.
Finally, 5SOS 3 is no longer such. The band recently announced the release of their latest album, Youngblood to be out June 22. Before announcing the record, they released the album’s first single, “Want You Back” last February, making a stir among fans who have waited for them to release material for so long. The original release of the album was supposed to be in late 2017 but “it just didn’t end up working,” as what Michael Clifford, the band’s guitarist said.
Clifford also said that the sound on the new album would not be a total departure of their old music, but they would retain only hints of it in their tracks. “It was just time for us to change,” he added.
As always, they worked with legendary producer John Feldman for the album. Some photos on Instagram and Snapchat showed that they have also worked with DJ Steve Aoki and Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker.
The band also announced tour dates from August to October this year. The first leg of the tour will take place in North America, kicking off in Toronto. Ticket sales started last April. The band also began doing promotional shows for the new album starting from Europe.
The band is composed of Luke Hemmings (lead vocals and guitar), Michael Clifford (vocals and guitar), Calum Hood (vocals and bass), and Ashton Irwin (vocals and drums). They debuted in 2011 and went on to become opening acts for One Direction before making a name for themselves and released their music.
