Brooklyn Nine-Nine will continue its sixth season on NBC

Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans were hit with a roller-coaster of emotions after being told that Fox would put the series to a close. Fans were quick to speculate that maybe now that the show is being given up by Fox, other Networks would grab the opportunity to adopt it and give it a new home. They were right, after Netflix and Hulu passing on the chance of getting the Nine-Nine family, within just 24 hours, Universal TV’s sister network, NBC, jumped at the chance on getting the action-comedy series.

The fans’ strong opposition urged the Nine-Nine team to pursue season 6. Even Mark Hamill, the genius behind Star Wars, joined Nine-Nine fans and showed his love for the show. In a Twitter post, he wrote, “Oh NOOOOOOOOO! I’m SO not ready to say #ByeBye99. Be forewarned FOXTV-when networks dump shows I love, I’m known for holding grudges a long, L-O-N-G time. I’m still mad CBS didn’t renew #SquarePegs! #EverythingILikeGetsCancelled”.

NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said, “Ever since we sold this show to Fox I’ve regretted letting it get away, and it is high time it came back to its rightful home. Mike Schur, Dan Goor, and Andy Samberg grew up on NBC, and we’re all thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest, and best cast comedies in a long time will take its place in our comedy line-up.”

When will Season 6 Air on NBC?

Although Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans are used to seeing their favorite action-comedy show premiering in mid-to-late September, NBC has confirmed that they won’t be airing season six till early 2019. NBC hasn’t confirmed an exact time slot for the show, but it said that Brooklyn Nine-Nine might take over The Good Place and air the show on Thursday nights.

What should Nine-Nine fans expect from Season 6?

Though Nine-Nine will come back, it is bittersweet news for the fans. They would not be seeing 22 or 23 episodes this coming season. Season 6 would only have 13 episodes. The shortened number of episodes might be because of Season 6 being the final season for Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Melissa Fumero, who plays Detective Amy Santiago in the show, wrote on her Instagram “Thank you to NBC for giving us the opportunity to finish this special show!!” Her post hints that Season 6 will wrap up the stories of the characters that fans followed since the show’s debut in September 2013.
