Prince William stepped out from being Prince Harry’s best man with just days to go before the grand royal wedding this coming Saturday, May 19. Prince William had an excellent reason why he decided not being there for his brother on his wedding day. The Duke of Cambridge canceled his best man duties last minute, to support the victims of last year’s devastating Grenfell Tower fire.
Prince William joined the crew of BBC One show, DIY SOS, it takes on significant projects for people and communities in need, is currently building a new community center and replacing a boxing club that was destroyed by the fire that broke out on June 14, 2017, at the 24-story Grenfell Tower block of public housing homes in west London.
The Duke of Cambridge joined volunteers and joined forces to help rebuild and finish the project. Volunteers devote their time and expertise at no cost; the project is all from the heart. Prince William also met with the locals in the area who were affected by the dreaded fire in 2017. William, along with his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, and his brother, Prince Harry, had already visited the area last year. The royal family is showing their consistent support by appearances, manpower, and establishing the Royal Foundation, which helped facilitate a space for mental health support.
But it looks like Prince William is not the only main family member that would not be at the royal wedding on Saturday. Meghan Markle’s dad, Thomas Markle, will no longer be attending the royal wedding. During a photo shoot for the wedding, Thomas revealed that he would not participate in the wedding because he does not want to embarrass Meghan or the royal family. Spectators are now worried as to who will walk the royal bride down the aisle on Saturday.
Update (May 19, 2018): Prince William managed to make it to his brother’s wedding.
