INS Vagir: Fifth Scorpene class submarine “Vagir” launched!

With another step forward for the Indian Navy. State Defense Minister Shripad Naik began Thursday with a video conference in Mazagaon Dock. With the fifth Scorpene-class submarine “Vagir” in Arabic Sea Waters of Project 75. INS Vagir belongs to the six submarines in the Kalvari class. It is build by DCNS, a French marine protection and energy firm. They are under construction as part of Project 75 of the Indian Navy.

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MDSL) has given the task of constructing six submarines from the Scorpene class. It was did in order to fulfil the requirements of the Indian Navy. INS Kalvari was launch in 2015 and commissioned to serve by late 2017 as the first of six Scorpene submarines. Khanderi, Karanj and Vela started after INS Kalvari.

In the Indian Navy, two submarines were commissioned from the MDL Project-75 Scorpene, Kalvari and Khanderi. In the last phase of extensive sea trials, the third submarine is Karanj. The fourth scorpene, Vela, began its maritime testing and Vagsheer was prepare to boot together for the sixth and last submarine.

“We already serve in Navy two Kalvari-class submarines. Scorpene’s submarine class can perform several traditional tasks of any modern submarine, including anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare. Vagsheer Sixth Scorpene submarine is in separate outfitting phases. Defense Minister Shripad Naik has video-conferenced Project 75 Fifth Scorped Class U-boat Vagir in Arab Sea Waters. The attack may start with anti-ship missiles, both torpedo and tube, whilst on the surface or underwater, said MDL. MDL. “We are particularly concerned with the camouflage of this powerful platform. It is unparalleled by most submarines and which has its characteristic underwater signatures. Because of these stealth features,” she added.

The submarine operates in all operational theatres and demonstrates interoperability with other Naval Task Force components, said MDL. “India continues to improve its position as a submarine construction company by launching Vagir. That’s consistent with the government’s current impetus to Make in India and Atma Nirbhar Bharat,” said MDL.
